The 2008 BMW X6 is offered in two distinct model grades: X6 xDrive 35i and X6 xDrive 50i. “X” signifies intelligent, the “Drive” configuration is tuned for an all-wheel drive system and “i” signifies a fuel-injected engine.
X6 xDrive 35i comes equipped with a twin-turbo direct injection inline 6-cylinder engine that churns out 300 horsepower and achieves 20 mpg on the highway. The X6 xDrive 50i delivers a brawny 400 hp with its twin-turbo direct injection V8 engine and offers an estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg on highways. Both the trims get the xDrive, intelligent all-wheel-drive system, as a standard feature.
Unlike the other all-wheel drive systems, BMW has built its vehicles with rear wheel bias for surefooted grip on slick roads, without sacrificing the feel of rear-wheel drive handling. It smartly sends power to the wheel or wheels with the surest footing in just a few milliseconds. That means under normal conditions, drive forces are spread out with a rear-wheel bias. But as soon as the system senses excessive wheel slip, it subtly shifts torque to meet the changing conditions, offering maximum available traction and superior handling on all surfaces.
